Nodules are nodular changes within the body’s organs and are generally categorized as cystic, solid and cystic-solid nodules.
1. Cystic nodules: Cystic nodules generally refer to nodules that have fluid inside or are hollow. In most cases, these nodules are benign and can be effectively treated by surgical removal of the nodule.
2. Solid nodules: Solid nodules are abnormal growths in the organs or tissues of the body, which are usually tumors or lumps. These solid nodules have a high chance of becoming cancerous and need to be removed.
3. Cystic-solid nodules: Cystic-solid nodules are usually found in the thyroid gland or breast, and they have both cystic and solid changes. Most of these nodules are benign, but they may worsen due to the presence of solid changes. Therefore, to prevent deterioration, surgery can be performed to remove the nodule.
For patients with small nodular shadows, further investigations should be required to determine the type of nodule and delaying the condition is not recommended.
