Funnel chest is a common congenital thoracic deformity. In severe cases, the depressed sternum compresses the right atrium and ventricle, reduces lung capacity and affects cardiopulmonary function, or seriously affects the appearance of funnel chest, which requires surgery. In 1998, Nuss first reported a minimally invasive surgery for correction of funnel chest, i.e. Nuss surgery, and since then, Nuss surgery has gained great respect in the international arena. Since the second half of last year, the treatment team led by Director Guofang Zhao of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery has successfully performed Nuss surgery for two patients with funnel chest with satisfactory results. The surgery was done with the assistance of thoracoscope, and only three 2-cm-long incisions were left on both sides of the chest wall after the surgery, which is minimally invasive and aesthetically pleasing.
