How long does it take for a bitten tongue to heal itself

Whether and how long a tongue bite can heal on its own generally depends on the extent of the bite. In most cases, if the bite is not serious and there is no significant amount of bleeding, but only the epithelial tissue in the upper layer of the mucosa is broken, it can generally heal on its own in 3-5 days. However, if an ulcer is formed at the tongue bite wound, it will generally heal slowly in a week or so, and local medication to promote ulcer healing can be used; if the bite is more serious and the wound is deeper and has damaged the base tissue of the tongue, or is accompanied by a lot of bleeding, you need to seek medical attention as soon as possible for suturing to stop the bleeding, and at the same time take oral anti-inflammatory medication to reduce inflammation and prevent infection. During the healing period of the tongue, it is recommended to eat carefully and not to eat spicy, stimulating and overly hot or hot food to avoid infecting the wound and affecting the healing process. In addition, if there are sharp tooth tips or residual crowns and roots locally in the mouth, actively seek medical attention for treatment to remove adverse stimuli and prevent re-biting.
