Nourishing the stomach and tonifying the stomach can be done in terms of replenishing the stomach qi, nourishing the stomach yin and tonifying the stomach yang. 1. Nourish stomach qi: Four Gentlemen Soup is composed of ginseng, atractylodes macrocephala, poria, and licorice, which has the effect of benefiting qi, strengthening the spleen (regulating the qi of the spleen and stomach), and harmonizing the stomach. It is mainly used for treating deficiency of spleen and stomach qi, which is characterized by weakness of the limbs, yellowish color (yellowish face without luster), and poor appetite and dullness (lack of appetite and reduced food intake).
2. Nourishing Stomach Yin: Yi Stomach Soup is composed of Radix Panax Ginseng, Ophiopogon, Rock Sugar, Radix et Rhizoma Dioscoreae, and Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati, with the effect of nourishing yin and benefiting the stomach (replenishing yin and enhancing the function of the stomach and internal organs). It is mainly used for treating deficiency of stomach yin (insufficient yin fluid in the stomach), which is characterized by loss of appetite, dry mouth and smoke, red tongue with little moss, and fine pulse (the pulse becomes narrower, thinner and faster).
3. Nourishing stomach yang: Lizhong Tang is composed of ginseng, atractylodes macrocephala, roasted licorice and dried ginger, which has the effect of warming the middle and strengthening the spleen and stomach (restoring the functions of the spleen and stomach). The main treatment of spleen and stomach deficiency and cold (spleen and stomach weakness and cold) evidence, symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, like warmth and like to press, diarrhea and so on.
