The U.S. Food and Drug Association has recommended limiting the intake of fish for women and children who are preparing to become pregnant or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Why? Because fish contains high levels of mercury. And mercury has a profound effect on fertility. According to the World Health Organization, the main source of mercury in humans is dental fillings that contain silver. 50% of dental fillings contain silver. If you have these fillings you are breathing in toxic mercury vapors every day. Any action that stimulates these fillings will cause the release of mercury vapor. Examples include chewing, grinding, brushing, drifting, and drilling. During these operations, mercury vapor can easily enter all tissues and organs. Mercury and male fertility: Mercury has a strong affinity for sperm. Mercury is found in male seminal plasma and sperm, especially in spermatozoa. The effects of mercury on male fertility occur through the following pathways. 1. Female partners are sensitive to mercury in male semen and develop antibodies, which can kill sperm. 2. Zinc and manganese are necessary for the enzyme systems on which sperm vitality depends, and mercury can inhibit them, thus indirectly affecting sperm vitality. A Hong Kong study noted that one-third of men with infertility had abnormally high levels of mercury, while one-quarter of women with infertility also had abnormally high levels of mercury. The study attributed the phenomenon to excessive consumption of seafood products. Fish may be the culprit. Although fish is not a major source of mercury, this study again highlights the effects of mercury on reproduction. Therefore any couple having difficulty conceiving should be examined for the toxic effects of heavy metals. Remove dental fillings if necessary.
