Vaccines are generally available for diabetics. However, it should be avoided in acute exacerbations of chronic disease or in those with vaccine allergies.
Diabetes is a chronic disease, diabetes is not a contraindication to vaccination, but for acute exacerbations of chronic disease should be avoided. Vaccination for diabetes mellitus is a prerequisite, and generally requires stable blood glucose control. Patients who are allergic to the vaccine or patients with diabetes with acute complications may cause mild or severe adverse reactions.
A small number of patients vaccinated with the vaccine will have fever, headache, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, redness, swelling at the vaccination site, pain and other allergic symptoms. Usually, they can improve on their own after 1 to 2 days.
In severe allergy, allergic dermatitis, purpura, anaphylaxis or coma may occur. If the allergic symptoms worsen or severe allergy, you should go to the hospital.
Diabetic patients can be vaccinated, but under the condition of stable blood sugar, should combine with their own physical conditions and according to the doctor’s opinion of the correct vaccination. Diabetes mellitus with acute complications such as diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar hyperglycemic syndrome, lactic acidosis may cause other complications or serious adverse reactions. Therefore, it is recommended that vaccination be withheld.
If diabetic patients do not know whether they can receive the vaccine, please consult a specialist at the endocrinology department of the hospital.
