Coronary angina is a group of clinical syndromes caused by temporary ischemia and hypoxia of the myocardium with episodes of anterior heart discomfort as the main manifestation, usually seen in patients with at least one coronary artery or major branch lumen diameter narrowing ≥ 50%, when physical activity or mental stress, coronary blood flow can not meet the needs of myocardial metabolism, resulting in myocardial ischemia, inducing angina. Its treatment means mainly include drug therapy, interventional therapy and surgical treatment. Despite the rapid development of modern medical technology in the treatment of coronary heart disease, the incidence of coronary heart disease in China is still increasing year by year, and tends to be younger. How to identify the high-risk group of coronary heart disease at an early stage, select reasonable drug or interventional treatment for patients with diagnosed coronary heart disease, and do a good job of long-term primary and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease is crucial. The Cardiovascular Center of Xiyuan Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, under the leadership of Chen Keji and other veteran experts, has made remarkable achievements in the field of Chinese medicine research for the prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease after decades of hard exploration, and the research on activating blood circulation and resolving blood stasis won the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 2004, and activating blood circulation and resolving blood stasis became the main method of Chinese medicine treatment for coronary heart disease, which has been promoted and applied nationwide. Meanwhile, Xiyuan Hospital Cardiovascular Center is also one of the first triple A Chinese hospitals in China to carry out interventional treatment (stenting) and has accumulated rich experience. Combined Chinese and Western medicine treatment can significantly promote post-operative recovery of stent patients and reduce uncomfortable symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, weakness and panic. The combination of advanced interventional procedures and standardized Western medicine treatment with individualized TCM treatment has been called “one-stop service for coronary heart disease” by patients and has achieved good social benefits. In addition, for patients who cannot or have not undergone stenting or bypass for various reasons, but still have recurrent angina attacks, or patients with stable angina and poor activity tolerance in coronary artery disease, the “three passages and two tonics” (i.e. “aromatic warming” and “xuan palsy and yang”) of academician Chen Keji are used. (i.e., “aromatic warming”, “promoting paralysis and Yang”, “activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis”, and “tonifying the kidney” and “tonifying Qi and blood”) as the principle. The combination of Chinese and Western medicine can significantly reduce angina attacks, improve clinical symptoms, enhance activity endurance and quality of life, and further reduce the recurrence of cardiovascular events.
