What’s wrong with swollen and itchy nail edges?

Swelling and itching at the edge of the nail may be caused by inguinitis, atopic dermatitis, eczema and other causes.
1. Nail groin infection: it is an inflammation of the tissues around the nail caused by various pathogenic bacteria infection. It manifests as redness, swelling, pain, fever and even pus in the perinail tissues. You can use erythromycin ointment and other drugs for anti-infection treatment.
2. Allergic dermatitis: If the skin on the edge of the nail is exposed to allergic dermatitis caused by sensitizing substances, it can lead to skin erythema, edema and itching. You can use glycerine lotion to stop itching, or take oral anti-allergy drugs such as loratadine and other treatments.
3. Eczema: If there is eczema on the skin at the edge of the nail, it can be manifested as erythema, papules, blisters, oozing, itching and obvious symptoms. You can take antihistamines such as cetirizine as prescribed by your doctor, or use topical glucocorticosteroids such as hydrocortisone cream to relieve the symptoms.
