The normal time for the swelling to go down after a broken foot is usually about 14 days, and patients with more serious injuries may need 4 to 6 weeks or even longer for the swelling to go down.
1. Normal situation: broken foot is also clinically referred to as acute ankle sprain, most patients with acute ankle sprain after the injury will usually appear in the injury site of the subcutaneous small blood vessel rupture, blood vessel contents free to the tissue space, pain and swelling around the injury site. Most patients after active treatment, edema symptoms will generally subside in about 14 days.
2. Special cases: for patients with heavy injuries, it may take 4-6 weeks or even longer for the edema to subside. For example, if there are ligament tears or ankle avulsion fracture after breaking the foot, external fixation or surgical internal fixation is required, and the recovery period will be about 4~6 weeks.
