Is it true that older women tend to get lupus?

Lupus erythematosus generally refers to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and there is a certain scientific basis for the saying that “elderly women are prone to get lupus erythematosus”.
Systemic lupus erythematosus is more common in women, especially those of childbearing age from 20 to 40 years old. Although the specific cause of the disease has not been fully clarified, it has been found that the reason why systemic lupus erythematosus is more common in women of childbearing age is related to the secretion of oestrogen, and that changes in the secretion of sex hormones in the body of women during the period of pregnancy can trigger or aggravate the condition of systemic lupus erythematosus.
After the process of pregnancy, the estrogen level in the body of elderly women is greatly increased compared with that of pregnant women, and the prevalence of SLE is higher, therefore, there is a certain scientific basis for the saying that “elderly women are prone to get lupus”.
In addition to estrogen, factors such as genetics, ultraviolet rays, drugs, infections, endocrine disorders, trauma and mental stress may also trigger or aggravate the condition of SLE patients. Therefore, daily attention should be paid to avoiding too much stress, ensuring sleep time, and avoiding colds.
It is recommended that mothers of advanced maternal age who suspect SLE should go to obstetrics and gynecology, rheumatology and immunology departments of regular hospitals in a timely manner, and standardize the diagnosis and treatment under the guidance of doctors.
