How constipation is treated in Chinese medicine

Constipation in Chinese medicine is divided into deficiency constipation and solid constipation, the deficiency evidence to be nourishing, solid evidence to be through the diarrhea. The constipation caused by the deficiency evidence are gas deficiency, blood deficiency, yin deficiency and yang deficiency. The constipation caused by qi deficiency with astragalus soup addition and subtraction, benefit qi moistening; blood deficiency caused by constipation with moistening pill addition and subtraction, nourishing blood moistening; yin deficiency caused by constipation with increase liquid soup addition and subtraction, nourishing yin laxity; yang deficiency caused by constipation with jichuan decoction addition and subtraction, warming the yang laxity. Constipation caused by solid evidence includes heat knot, Qi stagnation and cold accumulation. For constipation caused by heat knot, add or subtract Ma Zi Ren Wan to remove heat and induce stagnation, moisten the intestines and pass the bowel; for constipation caused by qi stagnation, add or subtract Liu Mu Tang to smooth qi stagnation; for constipation caused by cold accumulation, add or subtract Wen Spleen Tang to warm the li and dissipate the cold, and induce stagnation and pass the bowel. The adverse effects of the above prescriptions are not clear. Patients who are not feeling well are advised to go to a regular hospital for consultation, consult a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner for evidence-based guidance, and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment, rather than blindly self-medicating to avoid delaying the condition.
