How long does it take for an ectopic pregnancy to cause abdominal pain?

The typical rupture of an ectopic pregnancy is characterized by a sudden tearing pain in one side of the abdomen, which often occurs between 6 and 8 weeks of pregnancy. The timing of abdominal pain varies depending on the location of the gestational sac in the ectopic organ and the tolerance of the individual. If the fallopian tubes are weak, rupture can occur early in pregnancy, and the closer to the uterus, the richer the blood supply and the later the rupture of the ectopic pregnancy, as in the case of pregnancy in the uterine horn. In the early stages, before the ectopic pregnancy ruptures, vague pain in one side of the lower abdomen may also occur due to the stretching of the muscle fibers of the ectopic organ caused by the enlargement of the embryo, but this symptom is not characteristic and cannot be distinguished from normal uterine contractions in early pregnancy or abdominal pain of preterm abortion. For early and effective detection of ectopic pregnancy, gynecological ultrasound should be performed around 6 weeks of pregnancy according to the blood HCG level to confirm the location of the gestational sac for early detection and treatment to avoid rupture of ectopic pregnancy, which may cause hemorrhagic shock and endanger the life of the pregnant woman.
