What to do when your wisdom teeth grow out and your gums are swollen and painful

Gingival swelling and pain after wisdom tooth eruption may be the occurrence of wisdom tooth pericoronitis, acute treatment for local irrigation and incision and drainage, chronic treatment for excision of gingival flap or extraction of wisdom teeth, as follows.
1. Acute stage:
(1) Local rinsing: use saline and hydrogen peroxide to rinse the blind pocket until the overflow liquid is clear, and after drying, iodized glycerin can be placed into the blind pocket using a probe.
(2) Incision and drainage: If abscess appears, incision and drainage will be made in time.
(3) Anti-inflammatory treatment: anti-inflammatory drugs such as metronidazole and amoxicillin can be taken orally for anti-inflammatory treatment.
2. Chronic stage:
(1) Remove the gingival flap: if the wisdom tooth can erupt normally and establish normal occlusion with the opposite jaw teeth, remove the excess gingival flap around it, eliminate the blind pocket and retain the wisdom tooth.
(2) Removal of wisdom teeth: If the wisdom teeth cannot erupt normally, they should be removed to avoid recurrent episodes of wisdom tooth pericoronitis.
It is recommended to go to a regular medical institution to receive professional treatment, and the use of medication should follow the doctor’s instructions.
