What is cough hypersensitivity syndrome

Cough hypersensitivity syndrome is a refractory cough disorder in which patients generally share common clinical features of increased cough sensitivity. It is often seen in premenopausal women, but is rare in men. The cough usually occurs after an acute upper respiratory tract infection. The main manifestations are cough with itchy throat, throat discomfort, foreign body sensation, chest tightness, and hoarseness. Patients may also experience some abnormal emotions such as irritability, frustration, anxiety and depression, which seriously affect the quality of life of patients.
