The goal of tumor treatment in Western medicine is to pursue tumor-free survival, using ruthless means of attack: surgical resection, chemotherapy, local annihilation (radiotherapy), etc. The wish of “tumor-free survival” is the common prayer of doctors, patients and their relatives, but the clinical facts are too many unsatisfactory, quite a number of patients have already lost the time for surgery when diagnosed, and most of them can barely avoid recurrence and metastasis when undergoing surgery (palliative surgery). Most of the patients who have surgery (palliative surgery) cannot avoid recurrence and metastasis; the toxic side effects of radiotherapy are too heavy for the elderly and the weak to bear, and if they insist on attacking and killing, it is inevitable that the tumor will go away and the person will die, “dying together”, which not only costs a lot financially, but also gives the patient a poor quality of life. At this point, we must review this unrealistic demand and aim at “improving the patient’s quality of life and maximizing life expectancy” as the goal of treatment. There are many cases of living with disease in life, such as hypertensive patients, diabetic patients, etc. Can the tumor “coexist” with the patient and live with the tumor? The clinical practice of TCM has seen such cases. From stimulating the potential anti-tumor ability of human body, TCM can stabilize and shrink the tumor, reduce infiltration and metastasis, and not affect the patient’s quality of life too much during the treatment process, and with the improvement of immune clearance ability, some patients can even be cured.
