A thyroid nodule 3 cm in size is serious if there is a significant feeling of pressure and gas, and surgical treatment should be chosen to remove the lesion. If the symptoms are mild or atypical, conservative treatment options are also available. Radiofrequency ablation treatment allows the nodules to gradually shrink, while nodules that occur in the thyroid gland are commonly benign and also have certain geographical characteristics. The cause is related to iodine deficiency in the diet and is due to compensatory hyperplasia of the thyroid follicles. Many patients do not have clinical symptoms, but are detected during a health check-up. If a thyroid nodule appears to increase in size over a short period of time or if it is painful, it is likely to be malignant. This is a serious condition and should be followed by a CT scan of the neck and, if necessary, removal of most of the thyroid gland and dilation of the lymph nodes in the neck.
