The serious consequences of untreated kidney stones

For smaller kidney stones, such as less than 0.5 cm, usually no symptoms and no fluid in the kidney, they can be treated with more water and regular observation, without active treatment. For one, stones can cause chronic inflammatory infections and even cancerous changes by irritating the mucosa for a long time. Secondly, the stone will compress the mucosa and cause the kidney tissue to atrophy and lose its function, and finally the kidney can only be removed. I have treated many such cases in my long-term clinical work, and here is a case to illustrate. The patient was 71 years old, with a history of kidney stones for many years, and was admitted to the hospital on December 26, 2008, with CT, IVP, ultrasound and other tests indicating multiple stones in the right kidney. There are also many patients with multiple kidney stones who had their kidneys removed due to non-functional kidneys, which are numerous in clinical practice.
