The Global Initiative for Asthma Prevention and Control suggests that it is best for asthma patients to have a regular connection with one doctor, and I deeply appreciate the importance of this from my decades of medical practice. Why? First of all, because the causes of pediatric wheezing are complex, not always true asthma, and there are a large number of diseases with similar symptoms that need to be identified, such as recurrent respiratory infections, upper airway cough syndrome, cough variant asthma, post-infectious cough, eosinophilic bronchitis, gastroesophageal reflux, etc. It is now internationally emphasized that the diagnosis of pediatric asthma should be made through a preliminary diagnosis – treatment – evaluation of efficacy – Therefore, it is a long and continuous process, which requires close cooperation between doctors and parents and careful observation of the child, which requires more regular contact between parents and doctors. Secondly, in my experience, it is very important for doctors to take the initiative to care for and follow up with parents, because parents tend to neglect the necessary contact with doctors when their children’s condition is more stable. Therefore, to improve the efficacy of asthma treatment, a fundamental reform of the current medical model is necessary.
