What do I need to work on with young dentists?

Two days ago, I gave a class on “Fluoride and Dental Health” to the seventh and eighth year students of the hospital. Everyone listened very carefully to the theoretical lecture, and after the theoretical lecture, I also arranged the students to come up to speak about their own understanding. This is a lecture on what “fluoride” is, and the prevention of caries by fluoride is one of the greatest contributions of preventive dentistry to mankind in the 20th century. Most of the toothpastes we use today have added low concentration of fluoride to help prevent caries, except for children under 3 years old who swallow toothpaste because their swallowing function is not perfect, almost all people are suitable for low concentration of fluoride toothpaste, please pay attention to the ingredients list when you buy toothpaste! There are also fluoride mouthwashes, but they are relatively difficult to buy in China. After the theoretical session, the students had a lab session with each other. The main content of this class is to apply topical fluoride to the patient’s teeth, which is an effective method to prevent caries by a professional dentist. Usually, the doctor will judge whether your case belongs to the type of caries-prone, that is, caries-sensitive people, and then the doctor will apply the special fluoride topically to the applicable people to prevent caries or reduce your caries risk, this treatment is usually once every 3-6 months, most of the children are suitable for topical fluoride application, which can greatly reduce the incidence of caries. Another method of topical fluoride for caries prevention is the use of fluoride foam, often used in schools or community groups for caries prevention. The fluoride foam is squeezed into the tray and worn in the mouth for about 3 minutes. It is also usually operated by a professional dentist. After the class, the students also prepared fluoride related oral health care information to give presentations to patients in the hospital. I would like to say that they used high quality software and interspersed the class with students holding models for practical demonstrations so that the patients would understand more easily. Choosing the path of medicine is not without hardship, and I would like to be on the road with you, future young dentists, for this path of dentistry that we have chosen!
