The principle of treatment for mid-stage ovarian cancer is comprehensive treatment mainly based on surgery, which should remove the tumor to the maximum extent, followed by postoperative treatment with chemotherapy or (and) radiotherapy to eliminate the residual tumor. Surgery is the main treatment method for ovarian cancer, because it can accurately carry out staging, clarify pathological diagnosis and formulate correct treatment plan and judge prognosis, and can maximally remove the tumor. Early stage can get radical cure, and middle and late stage patients can improve their body condition after removing the tumor to reduce the load and create conditions for postoperative radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Indications for chemotherapy: adjuvant chemotherapy under the guidance of doctors according to the staging of surgery. Single-agent chemotherapeutic drugs mainly include cisplatin, carboplatin, phenylalanine nitrogen mustard, hexamethonium and so on. Among them, cisplatin is the most effective in treating ovarian epithelial cancer. Radiation therapy has become a major key in multiple treatments to save recurrent and advanced patients and prolong life. However, since tumor cells can flow freely in the abdominal cavity, radiation therapy must irradiate the whole abdominal cavity. For ovarian cancer, although surgery can remove most of the tumors, the few remaining cancer tissues often become the basis of recurrence, while chemotherapy or (and) radiotherapy with anti-cancer drugs after surgery can improve the curative effect, prevent or delay recurrence, and prolong patients’ life. Patients should formulate a suitable treatment plan for themselves under the guidance of doctors according to their conditions.
