Common complications after pituitary tumor surgery include hyponatremia, nasal bleeding, spinal fluid leakage, vision loss, pituitary hypoplasia and so on.
1. Generally, patients will have typical symptoms of hyponatremia such as low fever, fatigue, headache, nausea and vomiting one week after surgery, and it is recommended to go to the hospital for blood test in time.
2. Three days after the operation, some patients will have nasal bleeding, if more serious, need to do angiography in time.
3. Some patients may experience continuous flow of water in the nasal cavity, which belongs to the leakage of spinal fluid and requires timely treatment.
4. Pituitary tumor may compress the optic nerve, causing vision loss.
5. Patients with hypopituitarism should take medication such as thyroxine under doctor’s guidance.
