Kidney function test report card has serum urea nitrogen, blood creatinine, uric acid and other important indicators.
1. Serum urea nitrogen: it is the metabolic product of protein in human body. When the level of serum urea nitrogen is elevated, it is usually due to the damage of renal parenchyma, resulting in the decrease of glomerular filtration rate. Elevated values of this indicator are common in renal failure, severe pyelonephritis and other diseases. A decrease in this index is considered to be due to acute hepatic atrophy, toxic hepatitis and other diseases.
2. Blood creatinine: creatinine is a muscle metabolism product in the body, if the blood creatinine level rises, it is usually considered that the patient has acute and chronic glomerulonephritis and other diseases, accompanied by renal impairment; if the patient’s blood creatinine and serum urea nitrogen rise at the same time, it suggests that the current renal impairment may be more serious; if the blood creatinine decreases, it may be associated with anemia, pregnancy, long-term vegetarianism and other conditions.
3. Uric acid: Uric acid is the metabolite of purine in the body, mainly excreted through the kidneys, if the patient’s examination suggests that the uric acid is elevated, considering gout, acute and chronic nephritis, pyelonephritis and other diseases. Meanwhile, some malignant tumors may also lead to elevated uric acid level.
There are many important indicators in the renal function test report form, so it is recommended that patients go to the nephrology outpatient doctor for consultation after the test to clarify their own health conditions.
