Steps for surgical stitch removal

Clinically, the steps of suture removal differ according to the type of sutures in the patient’s wound. First, for clean wounds closed with ordinary silk sutures, remove the outer layer of the wound dressing, disinfect with 0.5% vital iodine 2-3 times, pick up the shorter side of the knot, cut the knot with scissors, and slowly pull out the silk near the skin to complete the removal of the sutures, do not pull the sutures in the opposite direction when removing the sutures, so as not to cause the silk outside the skin to enter the skin again to form contamination. Second, if the patient uses a reduction plate to fix the incision, when the disinfection is completed, the silk thread that fixes the reduction plate needs to be removed and the silk thread below the reduction plate needs to be removed according to the normal process. Third, if the patient uses a skin stapler to fix the skin incision, the stapler needs to be removed one by one when the stitches are removed to achieve the purpose of removing the stitches.
