The life expectancy of emphysema patients varies according to the patient’s condition as well as his/her physical condition, and the life expectancy may range from a few days to several decades.
1. Severe disease and poor physical condition: When emphysema is severe, with complications such as infection and respiratory failure, or when the patient is older or has other underlying diseases such as coronary heart disease, the prognosis is generally poor, and the patient’s life may be endangered at any time due to aggravation of the disease or lack of standardized diagnosis and treatment.
2. When the condition of emphysema is mild, without other complications, and when the patient is young and in good physical condition without other basic diseases, the prognosis is generally better and the life expectancy may reach the natural life expectancy.
When patients develop emphysema, they should be diagnosed and treated in a timely manner in order to slow down the progression of the disease and improve the prognosis.
