1 in 3 people have diabetes

Our diabetes figures are already at a grim time, and the outlook is not good. 2019 data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) study shows that the number of adults with diabetes worldwide is 463 million, of which 116 million are adults in China. Although our population base is large, this number of people with diabetes, which accounts for 1/4 of the world, is really worrying. What’s even more frightening is that, according to 2013 survey data, the total prevalence of diabetes in Chinese adults is about 10.9%, while the prevalence of pre-diabetes is as high as 35.7%, which means that among adults in China, one in three is a “reserve army” of diabetes, although this is only 6 years ago, but the trend of diabetes in China has not improved over the years. The reserve army of diabetes refers to people whose blood sugar is higher than normal but does not meet the diagnostic criteria for diabetes, and these people are in the pre-diabetic stage and can easily develop into diabetics if they do not pay a little attention. Pre-diabetic people have a blood glucose level of 6.1-6.9 mmol/L fasting blood glucose and an abnormal glucose tolerance of 7.8-11 mmol/L 2 hours after meals, and data show that more than half of these people will become diabetic within 6 years. Therefore, as you get older, it is necessary to experience regular testing of your health, so that problems can be more easily solved if they are detected early. If diagnosed with diabetes there is no need to be too anxious, for people with obesity type 2 diabetes, in addition to traditional medical treatment, weight loss surgery would be a better option. Generally through surgery are able to maintain blood sugar in the normal range for a long time, and can also stop the relevant drugs.
