Does the adult Heimlich maneuver work?

The adult Heimlich maneuver can save lives at critical moments, and it is mainly applied to the treatment of foreign bodies in the respiratory tract.

Principle: Impact on the abdomen – soft tissue under the diaphragm, the sudden impact can produce upward pressure, compression of the lower part of the two lungs, thus driving the lungs residual air to form a stream of air. The airflow with impact and direction to the airway can flush out the foreign matter such as hard food blocking the airway or throat, and release the asphyxiation state, so that the person can be rescued.

Operation method: The steps of Heimlich’s first aid method are to stand behind the patient, the rescuer stands steadily in the posture of bowing the front leg and boarding the back leg, the front leg is placed between the patient’s two legs, and the patient relies on the rescuer’s bowed leg, and maintains the body leaning forward.

The rescuer embraced the patient’s abdomen, one hand clenched fist, the thumb side of the patient’s abdomen under the fenestra to the navel on the 2cm between the position, the other hand holding the fist hand, rapid impact, inward and upward compression of the abdomen, and so on and so forth until the foreign body was washed out by the airflow.
