Small Incision Double Eyelid

There are two main methods of double eyelid surgery: the buried wire method and the incision method. The double eyelids formed by the buried wire method are not durable and are prone to become shallow or disappear. The double eyelids formed by the incision method are stable and long-lasting, but compared to the buried wire method, the post-operative recovery period is long and the incision marks are obvious, so it is easy to see that surgery has been done. It can be said that both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Based on my years of clinical experience in double eyelid surgery, I designed a new method of double eyelid surgery in 2006 after repeatedly exploring and thinking about it – double eyelid surgery with small incisions in the outer canthus. This method is also very different from the traditional small incision double eyelid surgery method, this new method truly combines the advantages of the incision and the buried wire surgical methods, while also discarding their shortcomings. The procedure involves making a small 0.5cm incision at the outer corner of the double eyelid fold line, removing the thickened tissue in front of the lid through special surgical instruments, and then suturing it in place to form a stable double eyelid. The advantage of this procedure is that there is no more embarrassing incision scar on the upper eyelid after surgery and the resulting double eyelid fold line is stable and smooth. Moreover, because there is no full incision of the upper eyelid skin, there is little tissue damage and the recovery rate is similar to that of the buried eyelid. The swelling of the upper eyelid subsides quickly and the natural look is restored within a short period of time, so that the surgically formed eyelids are not noticeable. From 2006 to 2012, I have performed many surgeries with this new type of double eyelid surgery, and after continuous testing, this method has become my most preferred method of double eyelid shaping. As you can see from the preoperative photos, this girl was not in very good condition and the usual choice would have been a full incision, but I used a small incision to not only create a more beautiful eyelid, but also to avoid incision scarring on the upper eyelid. During the year and a half from early 2010 to mid-2011, I visited and studied at a famous American plastic surgery institution that undertakes the plastic surgery of many Hollywood stars, and gained a comprehensive understanding of the international cutting-edge surgical methods and concepts. The exchange with international colleagues once again verified the cutting edge of this new surgical method and its adaptability to Asian people, and also strengthened their confidence in this technology.
