Classification of hip popping: extra-articular popping: gluteus contracture, a cord popping can be felt laterally during hip flexion and extension, more obvious when squatting with feet together, but pain is not obvious. In iliopsoas tendon popping, a popping sensation can be felt in the medial groin. Intra-articular popping: hip glenoid labral injury, popping during specific activities and positions, mostly with pain and interlocking. Hip free bodies are uncommon. Preliminary judgment: hip contracture is more likely.
