What is the most appropriate age for surgery for prematurity?

What is the most appropriate age for surgery in children with precocious heart disease? It is now believed that the decision should be based on the type of precocious heart disease and the early onset of symptoms. In severe cases, such as severe malformations, early onset of symptoms, recurrent heart failure, endocarditis, etc., surgery can be performed as early as possible regardless of age. Parents should bring their children to the hospital for examination as early as possible and let the specialist decide the appropriate age for surgery, rather than thinking “wait until they are older” to avoid missing the best time for surgery. In our hospital, we use transthoracic minimally invasive precordial occlusion to carry out surgical treatment for simple precardiac diseases, such as ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect and patent ductus arteriosus, and we can complete a ventricular septal defect surgery in as little as 6 minutes. Therefore, the majority of precardiac diseases can be completely cured by radical surgery within two years of age or even in the neonatal period. A small number of specific complex precardiac diseases can also be treated surgically to achieve symptomatic relief and prolong life.
