Hearing loss of 80 decibels wearing hearing aids is able to improve hearing and help normal communication.
The World Health Organization (WHO) in July 2001, held in Geneva, a special meeting on hearing aids in developing countries, issued the “WHO Guidelines for Hearing Aids and Their Services in Developing Countries”, the recommended scope of application of hearing aids is:
Children: average hearing thresholds of 31-80dB HL at 4 frequencies relative to the healthy ear 0.5kHz, 1kHz, 2kHz, 4kHz. adults: average hearing thresholds of 41-80dB HL at 4 frequencies relative to the healthy ear 0.5kHz, 1kHz, 2kHz, 4kHz.
Ideal for sensorineural deaf patients, the general principle of selection is based on the average degree of loss of pure tone hearing (0.5-4.0kHz), the more severe the hearing loss, the greater the required gain. Generally speaking, people with moderate hearing loss will benefit most from the use of hearing aids, while people with mild and profound deafness will benefit less.
A hearing loss of 80 decibels is classified as profound deafness. Theoretically, hearing aids can improve hearing and facilitate normal communication, but the results are less effective than for people with high residual hearing.
People with 80 dB hearing loss who need to wear hearing aids can go to a professional fitting organization for testing and trial use, and it is not recommended to try on your own.
