How to do a coronary CTA

Coronary CTA is a non-invasive imaging test primarily used to check for narrowed or blocked arteries in the heart.
1. You need to fast for 4-6 hours before the test, and you can drink a small amount of water. Avoid caffeinated beverages 12 hours before the test; diabetic patients taking metformin need to stop taking medication for 48 hours.
2、Wait in the examination room 30 minutes in advance, rest to keep the heart rate stable, the heart rate is required to be below 70 beats/min; if the heart rate is not up to the standard, a short-acting oral or intravenous beta blocker will usually be given to reduce the heart rate to below 60-70 beats/min.
3. Follow the nurse’s arrangement to tie an indwelling needle in the vein of the back of the hand or forearm for injection of iodine-containing contrast agent during the examination.
5、Breathing training: Do more breath-holding training, hold your breath for about 10 seconds after inhalation, while your chest and stomach remain still, just keep the normal inhalation amplitude, do not inhale deeply.
6, relax and wait for the examination, the examination, pay attention to the doctor’s voice command, with breathing, avoid coughing, yawning, sneezing or swallowing action.
