PET examination, or PET-CT, which is Positron Emission Tomography CT in Chinese, can detect earlier lesions and has the benefits of high sensitivity, high accuracy, low radiation, and the ability to perform whole-body scanning.
1. High sensitivity: PET scanning is mainly used for detecting and monitoring diseases, it can make a more definite diagnosis of tumors based on the high metabolic characteristics of malignant tumors when other imaging techniques (e.g., CT and MRI scans) are unable to determine whether the tumor is benign or malignant.
2. High accuracy: During PET scanning, a radioactive tracer is injected and images of the patient’s body are recorded with a PET scanner, which can accurately detect most of the tumors in the body, especially for the early diagnosis of cancer with high accuracy.
3. PET-CT uses less radioactive drugs, so it has the advantage of low radiation compared with other radioactive tests.
4. PET-CT can scan the whole body, and after one injection of radioactive tracer, the whole body can be observed and a judgment can be made on the disease.
In addition, PET examination has the benefits of being non-invasive and painless.
If the doctor considers it necessary for the patient to undergo PET examination, it is recommended to follow the doctor’s requirements to rule out the disease.
