When is the best time to have cataract surgery for people with glaucoma tendency?

Glaucoma is an eye disease that can easily lead to optic nerve atrophy, visual field defects and vision loss, and is one of the serious blinding eye diseases in ophthalmology. Cataract surgery alone can reduce IOP by about 10 mmHg, and if combined surgery is performed, IOP can be further reduced to save glaucoma vision. Therefore, cataract surgery can be advanced for people with glaucoma tendency (whether open-angle glaucoma or closed-angle glaucoma), which is extremely beneficial for glaucoma treatment and can reduce or even get rid of the dependence on anti-glaucoma drugs. Moreover, in closed-angle glaucoma, the anterior chamber angle becomes progressively narrower with increasing age and the lens expands as the cataract continues to progress, all of which lead to a progressively greater likelihood of the occurrence, development and onset of closed-angle glaucoma. Cataract surgery can improve the obstructive factors in the anterior chamber angle and prevent acute attacks of glaucoma, making it more recommendable.
