How to improve the quality of male semen

From a macroscopic point of view, measures to improve male semen quality can be divided into two major aspects: adjusting lifestyle and taking medical measures. The former can be achieved mainly by adjusting lifestyle without the use of drugs or surgery to improve semen quality, while the latter requires the use of drugs and sometimes surgical methods to achieve the purpose of improving semen quality. Our principles for treating any disease are the same, i.e. from simple to complex, from less expensive to more expensive, and from non-invasive to invasive. But in reality, although drugs and surgery cost money and take time, people attach great importance to these superficial measures, but often ignore the importance of lifestyle adjustments, not knowing that these non-costly things are more important, as “Zuo Zhuan” says, “Only the instrument and the name can not be false”. And medical measures often need to go to the regular hospital to see the doctor in person, so here we focus on how to adjust the lifestyle. A, adjust the lifestyle 1, avoid smoking, avoid excessive drinking Smoking has a negative impact on fertility, foreign research shows that smoking can increase sperm DNA damage; increase aneuploidy sperm; may lead to testicular atrophy; semen routine some parameters appear abnormal. Smoking can even affect the success rate of IVF. Some famous fertility centers abroad require their patients to quit smoking for at least 3 months in order to ensure their relatively high IVF success rate. Thus, quitting smoking can improve semen quality. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption. Research data shows that drinking below moderate amounts of alcohol has little effect on fertility. Some couples of child-bearing age take the measure of “closing the mountains” before having children, or even refrain from drinking alcohol, but it is actually possible to drink in small amounts, but not in excess. 2, away from radiation and toxic chemicals Modern society, electromagnetic radiation is almost everywhere, such as induction cookers, computers and cell phones, etc., which brings convenience to our lives, but also has a negative side, which is to affect the quality of male semen. Radiation is inversely proportional to the cube of distance, with a 1-fold increase in distance and 1/8 of radiation attenuation, so it is necessary to stay away from radiation to improve the quality of male semen. There are many chemicals in life that affect male fertility; some chemicals can also interfere with the human endocrine system, so these chemicals are also known as endocrine disruptors (EDs), and the main endocrine disruptors (EDs) are atrazine (Atrazine, which is an insecticide), octylphenol (Octylphenol), methoxydiphenyl, bisphenol A, tetraoxydiphenyl Dioxane, etc. Stay away from toxic chemicals in order to improve the quality of male semen. 3, to avoid local high temperature and high fever in the genitals Research shows that the temperature required for sperm production in the testes of mammals should be lower than 37°C. If the local temperature rises, such as in saunas, or wearing tight underwear for a long time, the local temperature will rise, which will affect the quality of male semen. A high fever may also affect the quality of male semen. Some data show that if a fever exceeds 39 degrees, sperm production may be inhibited for up to six months in some sensitive men. Small foreign studies have shown that high fever can affect sperm DNA integrity, and some foreign IVF centers recommend that patients should preferably undergo IVF treatment for 2 months after a high fever. 4, exercise and weight loss Recent studies have shown that exercise helps improve androgens in men and can improve semen quality. Human adipose tissue contains aromatase, an enzyme that converts androgens into estrogens. More estrogens can affect male semen quality, so losing weight can help improve male semen quality.5 Avoid abusing drugs Some drugs may affect male semen quality and need to be applied under medical supervision. These drugs are mainly: hormones, such as high-dose glucocorticoids, androgens, anti-androgen drugs progestins, estrogens, LHRH (GnRH) agonists or antagonists, anabolic steroid hormones (abused by athletes and some young men hoping to increase muscle strength), etc. These hormones can affect the quality of male semen, but these impairments are usually reversible. Drugs used to treat hypertension tend to cause erectile dysfunction, especially beta-blockers and thiazides, but most do not affect reproductive function; however, a few may affect fertility. Amphiregulin, which can antagonize androgenic effects in some tissues and impair semen quality. Calcium channel blockers can also cause reversible impairment of sperm function. 5a reductase inhibitor finasteride, when used to treat prostate enlargement (5 mg/day), can cause a decrease in semen volume, but no impairment in semen quality was found when used to treat alopecia (1 mg/day). Cimetidine, which competitively inhibits the action of androgens at the receptor level. Colchicine, which may cause direct toxicity to spermatogenesis. The immunosuppressant cyclosporine A can impair fertility in rodents, but studies are lacking on whether it impairs fertility in humans. The main medical measures are drugs and surgery (such as varicocele surgery, etc.), but these medical measures require a face-to-face consultation with a doctor at a regular hospital.
