Can respiratory infections in adults be transmitted to young children

Respiratory infections in adults can be transmitted to young children. The most common causative agent of respiratory infections is a virus, and viruses are contagious. When adults have symptoms of respiratory infections, they should be properly isolated from young children to avoid cross-infection, and aggressive treatment is needed to promote healing of the disease. If the patient has a viral infection, antipyretic, detoxifying or antiviral drugs can be used. Symptomatic treatment is needed with oral herbal medicines that clear heat and detoxify the body, such as Qing Kai Ling or Pu Di Lan. When the patient is infected with influenza A or B, antiviral drugs such as Abidor or Oseltamivir may be used. Mycoplasma infections are also contagious. Macrolide antibiotics or quinolone antibiotics can be used for mycoplasma infections.
