What are the characteristics of oral orthodontic appliances?

Oral appliances used to treat snoring, also known as snore stoppers, can be basically divided into three categories: soft palate lifters, tongue retainers and mandibular advancement devices, of which mandibular advancement devices are the most widely used and have the most variety. The appearance is similar to a boxer’s mouthguard, and the patient can see the effect when wearing it only during sleep. The design of orthodontic appliances depends on the type of obstruction in the patient’s upper respiratory tract, and they are made individually for each patient, with the advantages of being comfortable, small, portable, inexpensive and reliable. There are also finished products available on the market, but they are not personalized and uncomfortable to wear, and because patients do not have the relevant expertise, they are prone to many adverse consequences and the results are not certain.
