The anatomy of the pharynx can be divided into the nasopharynx, oropharynx and laryngopharynx. It is customary to refer to both the oropharynx and the laryngopharynx as the throat.
If bleeding occurs in the pharynx, the first thing to consider is nasal mucosa or sinus inflammation that causes nasal bleeding and backflow from the posterior nasal cavity to the pharynx; it can be accompanied by nasal bleeding or blood when blowing the nose. In case of bleeding in the throat caused by nasopharyngeal fibrovascular tumor, the bleeding is very large and accompanied by nasal bleeding. In the case of bleeding from the throat caused by capillary hemangioma of the throat, the amount of bleeding is also large and difficult to stop. Bleeding from the throat caused by lower respiratory tract diseases is accompanied by coughing, and the blood comes out through coughing. In the case of bleeding from the throat caused by a digestive tract disease, the blood is vomited through the throat and is coffee-colored, often accompanied by symptoms of the disease such as pain and discomfort in the stomach. It may also be bleeding from the throat caused by gingivitis, which occurs when brushing your teeth. Throat bleeding caused by the rupture of dilated capillaries in the mucous membrane of the throat when coughing is violent, and the amount of bleeding is relatively small.
In many cases, it is difficult to find the cause of bleeding in the throat and the site of bleeding because the amount of bleeding is very small, and treatment can only be administered symptomatically.
