Whether pediatric sinusitis can heal on its own depends on the situation. Pediatric sinusitis is divided into acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis. Some of the acute sinusitis caused by infection or allergy can be self-healed by improving the body’s resistance. However, most acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis require systematic treatment to have a chance of healing.
Because children are young, their sinuses are developing, and most of them have enlarged adenoids, acute sinusitis is often caused by a combination of viral or bacterial infections. If acute sinusitis does not receive proper treatment or if the treatment plan fails, it can become chronic sinusitis.
Both acute and chronic sinusitis in children can be treated medically with antibiotics. However, the use of antibiotics needs to be strictly controlled, generally with a medication cycle of 2 to 4 weeks for acute sinusitis and up to 4 weeks for chronic sinusitis. If the medication is not satisfactory and the symptoms of sinusitis are severe, surgical treatment can be used.
Patients with pediatric sinusitis should eat a light diet that is rich in nutrients. Do not eat or eat less spicy stimulating and greasy food, and participate in more outdoor activities to improve the body’s resistance.
