Cellular lung cancer (SCLC) is highly sensitive to chemotherapy, but also prone to early development of drug resistance. The oncology community has long believed that increasing dose intensity may overcome drug resistance and improve the prognosis of SCLC, resulting in a series of clinical studies, but the conclusions have been controversial. Recently the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of a study that gave a negative conclusion that high-dose chemotherapy for SCLC is not beneficial.
