Goatee sores, also known as beard sores, are folliculitis that occurs in the beard area, mainly due to Staphylococcus aureus infection, and can be treated with topical antibiotic ointment. The condition is seen primarily in the beard area of adult males; hair and other hairy parts are rarely affected. It presents as follicular papules or pustules with hair running through the center. Treatment is based on topical medication, which can be used externally with mupirocin ointment or neomycin ointment as prescribed by the doctor; with oral antibiotics such as tetracycline and erythromycin if necessary. Daily need to maintain personal cleanliness, regular cleaning and disinfection razor, do not share razor blades with others.
