A high mean platelet volume represents a large mean volume of individual platelets and is seen in increased platelet destruction or restored bone marrow hematopoiesis. Mean platelet volume, or MPV, has a normal range of 7 to 11 fl and reflects the average volume of individual platelets. Increased mean platelet volume can be seen in patients with increased platelet destruction but normal bone marrow hematopoiesis. An increase in MPV can also be seen after hematopoietic suppression is lifted. Impaired bone marrow hematopoiesis can be seen in diseases such as leukemia, myeloma, and pharmacological myelosuppression. When high mean platelet volume occurs, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time and standardize the treatment under the guidance of a professional doctor.
