Natural milk withdrawal takes a few days to harden

Natural milk return refers to the gradual reduction of milk production without any pharmacologic intervention. The time needed for natural milk return depends mainly on the method of milk return. If the mother adopts a gradual weaning approach to promote milk return, it usually takes about 1 month from the beginning of the reduction in the frequency of breastfeeding to the final return of milk. Mothers usually do not experience significant breast swelling or pain, nor do they experience inflammation or hardening of the mammary glands. If the mother chooses the method of abrupt weaning, the time required for milk return may be shorter, usually around 1-2 weeks. However, this method is prone to cause obvious feeling of breast swelling and pain, and the patient will have milk stagnation in the breast, which may be secondary to infection and cause mastitis in severe cases. It is recommended that during the period of natural milk return, patients should not eat too greasy food, drink less soup food, reduce milk secretion, reduce breastfeeding, and try not to stimulate the nipple areola, which is conducive to the early success of natural milk return.
