The main cause of facial palsy is facial neuritis, a non-bacterial, non-purulent inflammation of the facial nerve, which is a common and multi-infarct disease. It mostly starts due to local exposure to wind or cold, so it is usually thought that the local blood vessels that nourish the nerve may spasm due to wind and cold, resulting in ischemia, edema, and pressure on the facial nerve tissue. Treatment of facial palsy includes medication, acupuncture and physical therapy. Mild and moderate cases can mostly recover within 1-2 months after active treatment. Recovery is mostly incomplete in severe cases. The main residual symptoms are incomplete or no recovery of eyebrow raising, incomplete recovery of perioral muscles including upper lip lift, orbicularis oris and lower lip square muscles and residual symptoms: joint band movement, contracture, ptosis, inverted error, crocodile tears and facial muscle spasm. During the treatment period, patients should actively cooperate with self-massage and expression muscle rehabilitation training at home, while receiving acupuncture, medicine and other integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment, which will have twice the effect with half the effort and enable facial palsy to recover as soon as possible. 1. Self-massage 1. Comprehensive massage: The patient first rubs the two palms against each other until the palms are hot, then presses them against both cheeks, pushes and rubs them from the bottom up to the eyebrows, then separates them to the two eyebrow tips, and then goes down to the jaw through the ear. So repeatedly push rub dozens of times, until the cheeks are hot to degree. 2, acupuncture point massage: with lighter techniques to press the affected side of Yangbai, four white, sun, Yingxiang, Xia Guan, cheek car, zygomatic s, hold the right, the ground warehouse, Chengjiao and other points, with heavier techniques to press the Fengchi point of the neck, the upper extremity of the Hegu and the lower extremity of the foot Sanli, Taichong and other points, each point rubbing 0.5-l minutes. 3, pinch facial muscles: one hand to fix the healthy side, and slightly downward force to make the skewed appearance of the mouth and eyes can be corrected, the other hand in the affected side of the face according to the three lines a circle to pinch the facial muscles. When pinching, the thumb and two fingers are pressed on two acupuncture points, and then gently pressed, and slowly closed to the middle, repeatedly, until the stiff facial muscles become soft and flushed. A circle means using the middle finger and ring finger to slowly make circles around the affected orbital area, repeated several times. Expression muscle rehabilitation training After the movement of facial expression muscles on the affected side, effective expression muscle rehabilitation training can significantly improve the therapeutic effect. The main expression muscles involved in facial palsy are frontalis frontalis, orbicularis oculi, upper lip, zygomaticus, orbicularis orbis and lower lip square. The functional training of these major muscles can promote the normalization of the motor function of the entire facial expression muscles. The following treatment methods should be selected according to the patient’s different symptoms during the training, with 2-3 times daily training and 10-20 times for each movement. Specific training methods are as follows: 1. Eyebrow lift training: Patients lift the eyebrows on the healthy side and the affected side to help restore the function of the eyebrow lift movement. 2.Eye Closure Training: Patients gently close their eyes at the beginning and close both eyes at the same time for 10-20 times. If the eyelids cannot be completely closed, the finger belly of the index finger can be used to gently massage along the infraorbital rim when the white is exposed, and then forcefully close the eyes for 10 times to help restore the eyelid closure function. 3. Nose shrugging training: A few patients cannot shrug their noses, so they should pay attention to the direction of nose force during training. 4.Show teeth training: the patient’s corners of the mouth to both sides at the same time, to avoid only to one side of the force practice into a habitual oblique movement of the corners of the mouth. 5.Noodle training: When performing noodle training, contract the lips of the mouth and noodle forward with force. After the orbicularis oris muscle is restored, the patient can puff up the cheeks, and the symptoms of brushing teeth or eating drool will disappear. When training the mouth, the motor function of the upper lip, lower lip and chin muscles are trained at the same time. 6.Cheek puffing training: When puffing and leaking, use your hand to squeeze the affected orbicularis oris muscle up and down for cheek puffing training. If the patient is able to perform cheek puffing, it means that the motor function of orbicularis oris muscle and buccal muscle can be restored to normal, and the symptoms of tooth brushing leakage, drooling and food stagnation will disappear. This method helps to prevent and control the contracture of the upper lip square muscle. In addition, patients with facial palsy should do the following three things when they return home: First, often apply hot compresses or fumigate the affected area with Chinese medicine to improve local blood circulation, eliminate edema and promote the recovery of nerve function; second, pay attention to watching less TV and computer to reduce the burden on the orbicularis muscle and protect the eyes; third, eat less cold things, especially chilled food. The third is to eat less cold food, especially cold food. In this way, the doctor’s full dedication to treatment, the patient’s active cooperation, and the doctor-patient interaction will certainly improve the cure rate of facial palsy, shorten the treatment time, and enable the patient to recover as soon as possible.
