Toothache causing half of the face to swell may be the spread of periapical infection caused by buccal space infection, occlusal space infection, infraorbital space infection and other diseases, the treatment method for incision and drainage of pus, combined with medication, to be after the control of inflammation, the affected teeth for root canal treatment or extraction.
1. Buccal space infection: after abscess formation, incision and drainage can be made from the mouth or face, the mouth can be incised in the vestibule of the oral cavity, above the mandibular gingivo-buccal sulcus, and the face can be incised in the superficial skin of the abscess along the line of the skin folds, separated from the pus cavity, and pus can be fully drained, and metronidazole and other antimicrobial drugs are taken to assist in the treatment. After the inflammation is controlled, root canal treatment is carried out on the affected tooth, and the tooth is extracted if the prognosis is poor.
2. Occlusal space infection: after abscess formation, it can be incised and drained from the extra-oral route, the extra-oral incision is made from the posterior edge of the mandibular branch around the angle of the mandible, and the incision is made layer by layer 2cm away from the lower edge of the mandible, to enter the abscess cavity and drain out the pus, and anti-bacterial drugs can be taken, such as cephalexin and other antibacterial drugs. After the inflammation is controlled, root canal treatment is performed on the affected tooth, and extraction is performed if the prognosis is poor.
3. Infection of infraorbital space: antimicrobial drugs such as metronidazole can be applied in the stage of cellulitis of infraorbital space; after abscess formation, incision and drainage are made in time, and incision is usually made in the oral vestibular mucous membrane of the labial side of maxillary cusp teeth and premolar teeth in the mouth. After the inflammation is controlled, root canal treatment is carried out on the affected teeth, and extraction is carried out if the prognosis is poor.
All of the above drugs should be used under the guidance of a doctor, and it is recommended to go to the hospital in time to receive professional treatment.
