Occasional phagocytosis in bone marrow aspiration may be caused by EBV infection, but the possibility of phagocytosis syndrome cannot be completely ruled out.
A small number of activated lymphocytes or histiocytes can be seen in the bone marrow aspiration smear, which is a phagocytosis phenomenon, and this phenomenon does not occur in normal people. When the human body is infected with EBV and other germs, the phagocytosis phenomenon may be seen occasionally in bone marrow aspiration, and further quantitative examination of the EBV virus may be carried out to clarify this phenomenon.
If the infection is caused by EBV, antiviral drugs such as ganciclovir can be given to treat the disease, and the bone marrow aspiration test can be normalized after the condition improves.
In the clinic, patients with hemophagocytic syndrome can see obvious hemophagocytosis by bone marrow aspiration, which is a serious disease that can endanger the patient’s life. Occasional blood phagocytosis by bone marrow aspiration cannot completely exclude the possibility of hemophagocytic syndrome, and it is necessary to go to the hematology department in time to improve the relevant examinations to make a clear diagnosis, so as to avoid missing the diagnosis and delaying the treatment.
