A neurological deficit rating scale is a form to evaluate the severity of neurological deficits. More commonly used is the NIHSS scale, which is more commonly used in neurology. the level of these scores is often proportional to the neurological damage and can also be used to determine the recovery of neurological function. the NIHSS score is used to assess the degree of neurological deficit in stroke patients. Patients with a baseline assessment greater than 16 are likely to die, while those with a score less than 6 are likely to recover well, with each additional score decreasing the likelihood of a good prognosis by 17%. Scores range from 0-42, with higher scores associated with more severe neurological impairment.
