Are peritoneal metastases from gallbladder cancer considered distant metastases?

Peritoneal metastases from gallbladder cancer are not considered distant metastases. Distant metastasis refers to metastatic lesions in organs or tissues farther away from the primary cancer. Gallbladder cancer is a malignant disease, and in advanced stage, it is easy to have lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis, and the most common distant metastasis are liver and lung. Gallbladder cancer is usually transferred to the abdominal cavity by lymph nodes, and in late stage, it can enter the liver and lungs through blood, so peritoneal metastasis of gallbladder cancer is not considered as distant metastasis. Abdominal distension is due to peritoneal metastasis, a large amount of cancerous ascites appears in the abdomen, and the symptom of poor bowel movement will appear.
