There are many causes of elevated PH, and the main treatment modalities are correction of the primary disease and application of acidic medications to correct the PH. pH greater than 7.45 is known as alkalosis. 1. Metabolic alkalosis: severe vomiting, prolonged gastrointestinal decompression, and improper use of peptic ulcer medications can cause metabolic alkalosis, which is an elevation of PH caused by excessive loss of H⁺. While actively treating the primary disease, alkalosis can be corrected by infusion of isotonic saline, glucose water, potassium chloride and hydrochloric acid solution. 2. Respiratory alkalosis: central nervous system injury, hyperthermia, hyperthyroidism, hyperventilation and other causes lead to excessive CO₂ excretion, resulting in elevated PH. The first step should be to treat the primary disease and remove hyperventilation. Respiratory alkalosis can also be corrected with inhalation of a 5% CO₂ gas mixture. It is recommended to go to the internal medicine department or the emergency department in time to avoid delaying the treatment, and all the medicines should be used according to the doctor’s prescription.
