On August 22, a patient who had been troubled by ureteral stones for more than 10 years was discharged from the urology department of our hospital. The patient was found to have a right ureteral stone 10 years ago and had undergone 8 times of extracorporeal lithotripsy without success. In January before admission, the patient began to develop fever, which gradually worsened. In order to save money, the patient was treated with antipyretic drugs every day, but his condition gradually worsened and he had to go to the hospital. Due to the complexity of his condition, he was referred to our urology department by our counterpart, Donggaocun Hospital in Pinggu District. On the day of admission, the patient’s body temperature reached 40.3℃, accompanied by obvious chills and lumbago, and after examination, the patient’s right ureteral stone led to severe hydronephrosis in the right kidney, accompanied by serious urinary tract infection, and antibiotic treatment was ineffective, and the patient’s fasting blood sugar was as high as 33mmol/L. The patient’s condition was dangerous, and if not treated in time, ureteral stone obstruction, infection and diabetes would aggravate each other, and there was not only the possibility of pus accumulation in the kidney, but also the possibility of kidney loss. If not treated in time, ureteral stone obstruction, infection and diabetes mellitus will aggravate each other. After one week of kidney drainage, blood sugar control and infection control, the patient underwent ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy on August 20 to remove the ureteral stone with minimally invasive techniques. The residual renal function was protected. This is a typical case of a ureteral stone that severely damaged the kidney function. We are prompted to pay attention to the treatment of stones to avoid their serious health effects.
