What not to eat for glaucoma

There are no absolute dietary taboos for glaucoma patients, but they should avoid consuming a lot of spicy and stimulating foods and drinks, and should also avoid taking drugs that can induce glaucoma. 1. Spicy and irritating foods and drinks: Foods containing a lot of cholesterol, fat and chili peppers will increase the viscosity of the patient’s blood. Drinks such as alcohol, strong tea, carbonated beverages and coffee will easily stimulate the sympathetic nerves, inducing pupil dilatation and obstruction of aqueous drainage, which may induce or aggravate the condition of glaucoma, therefore, patients need to avoid consuming a large amount of the above mentioned foods and beverages. 2. Some medications: Some oral medications such as antidepressants, which need to be taken for a long period of time, may lead to elevation of intraocular pressure in patients. Pupil-diluting agents such as atropine ophthalmic gel and tropicamide eye drops can also induce glaucoma, and patients need to use these drugs under the guidance of a physician. In addition, glaucoma also need to avoid drinking too much water at one time, otherwise it will easily lead to an instant increase in intraocular pressure. It is recommended that patients with glaucoma consult a doctor in a timely manner to assess their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment and care.
